Virginia Harman spoke this week at the retirement party held for the Honorable Tambra P. Colston, Superior Court of Floyd County. Virginia recounted the strong leadership exhibited by Judge Colston across her storied career, from arguing (and winning) a case before the Supreme Court of the United States to serving as District Attorney of Floyd County to her election as Superior Court Judge. Judge Colston’s crowning achievement on the bench is undoubtedly the founding of the Floyd County Drug Court, which provides a unique and effective approach to those afflicted with addiction problems resulting in criminal charges. Congratulations to Judge Colston, and thank you for your career of service to our community. MSP wishes you the best of luck in the many meaningful endeavors that lie ahead!

Rob Monroe recently settled a workers compensation claim for $70,000 on behalf of a client who was injured after being struck by a forklift while working for a subcontractor of a local tire manufacturer. The claimant was also a forklift driver who suffered a significant back injury in the incident, and is permanently restricted to light duty work. Prior to resolving this claim, Rob also obtained a $100,000 settlement for a long-log truck driver who seriously injured his shoulder in a work-related trucking accident that occurred in April of 2016. The claimant in this case had driven log trucks his entire life, but was unfortunately unable to go back to work after his injury. Please call or email Rob if you or someone you know needs assistance with a work-related injury.

In honor of the life of Tracy Harman, the MSP family planted a Red Maple tree at the Harman home in Cave Spring. Scott Smith and Jule Peek shared stories of their fond memories of Tracy. Tracy loved all things outdoors and it is only fitting to plant a tree as a living memorial to the enduring legacy that he has left to his friends and family.

Partner Virginia Harman was recently featured in a publication by the Georgia Banker’s Association. Virginia’s passion for environmentalism was a prominent feature in the article.

When she’s not helping her bank clients avoid legal issues, you might find Virginia Harman in a neighbor’s back yard peacefully scooping up a snake to relocate it. “A life-long interest in snakes and turtles has led me to pursue, with my two daughters’ help, becoming a licensed rescue and rehab facility for wild life specializing in herpetology. I am already called on quite often to come move and relocate snakes for local folks who are scared but have learned that killing snakes is NOT a good or necessary thing,” she tells us in this week’s GBA member profile. Harman, partner at McRae, Smith, Peek, Harman & Monroe, LLP and vice chair of GBA’s Bank Counsel Section, shares her views about her work for her financial industry clients, how bankers have adjusted since the downturn, two very important people in her life and the value of GBA’s Bank Counsel Section.
