Scott joined the predecessor of McRae, Smith, Peek, Harman & Monroe, LLP in 1989 upon graduating from Mercer Law School. He initially practiced in the area of litigation with the focus on insurance defense, but in 1992 had an opportunity to practice in the areas of real estate and business law. Since that time Scott has developed this practice while at the same time expanding his expertise in the areas of Development Authority law, land use and zoning. Scott provides representations to developers, lenders, contractors, investors buyers and sellers in both commercial and residential transactions with an emphasis in the commercial area. Scott’s practice includes appearing before various governmental authorities in dealing with zoning and land use issues. He has also served as the attorney for the Development Authority of Floyd County since 1999.
Scott is a strong believer in giving back to the community that has given so much to him, his family and his law practice. Scott currently serves on the Board of Directors of River City Bank, a local community bank. He also serves on the Boards of the Community Foundation for Greater Rome, Mercy Care Rome where he is currently the Vice Chair and the Boys and Girls Club of Northwest Georgia where he has served as President. He was recently recognized as a 2018 recipient of the Heart of the Community Award. He is a charter and current member of the Seven Hills Rotary Club.
Scott is an adjunct Professor at Berry College where he teaches Business Law and Ethics.
Scott is the managing partner and member of the firm’s Executive Committee.
Scott and his wife Beth have 3 daughters. He is a member of First Baptist Church of Rome where he has served as the Chair of Deacons, Chair of the Personnel Committee and Chair of the Missions Committee.
