Estate Jury Trial Win Benefits St. Jude’s

We’re happy to announce a big win in a recent jury trial! Lee Niedrach, assisted by Trey Newton as second chair, represented the estate of a man whose alleged girlfriend sued, claiming the decedent promised he would leave his home to her after he died. She asked the jury to award her the home or, alternatively, for more than $1 million from the estate.

During the three-day trial, evidence showed she lied about the promise. The jury sided fully with the estate and awarded her nothing. The house has now been sold, and we can gladly report that a six-figure check from the sale proceeds was mailed this week directly to the decedent’s chosen beneficiary, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

We’re excited to announce that MSP, led by partners Chris Jackson and Virginia Harman, has been selected to serve as the new legal counsel for Gordon County!

After nearly eight years of Jim Ledbetter serving in the dual role of County Attorney and Administrator, Gordon County has decided to split these responsibilities to better manage their growing legal needs. We’re honored to step in and provide our expertise as the county continues to experience rapid population, retail, and industrial growth.

As Chris said, “I’m grateful we’re coming in at a time that we still have Jim as a person to lean on, to talk to, and to strategize with, to make sure that we’re doing the right thing for the folks of Gordon County.”

MSP also represents various other government entities, including Floyd County, the cities of Cedartown, Rockmart, Temple, Buchanan, and Tallapoosa, as well as the State of Georgia as Special Assistant Attorneys General for land acquisition and condemnation matters.

We are incredibly proud to celebrate our very own Virginia Harman, who was honored this past Saturday by the Heart of the Community Foundation with the 2025 Award of Honor for her outstanding service to the community and unwavering dedication to justice.

Throughout her career, Virginia has demonstrated a deep commitment to serving others—both inside and outside the courtroom. She has dedicated countless hours to pro bono work, particularly focused on protecting the cleanliness of our rivers and ensuring access to justice for all in Rome and Floyd County. Her passion for community extends far beyond her legal work, as seen in her leadership role in conservancy of Georgia’s natrual resources, her dedication to cancer support initiatives, and her tireless work in animal rescue.

Virginia’s legacy is one of compassion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to justice and community. Her late husband, Tracy, and her loving family—Ginni, Kate, Billy, Evan, and Ella—are no doubt proud of all that she has achieved.

MSP SETTLES 24 NUISANCE CASES

McRae, Smith, Peek, Harman & Monroe, LLP is happy to announce the successful settlement of 24 nuisance lawsuits in federal court addressing noise and vibration disturbances allegedly caused by a privately owned power plant recently constructed in northeast Georgia.

Over the past few years, our litigation team, led by Partner Jason Sanker, has represented local residents who claimed to experience significant disruptions due to nuisances caused by excessive noise and vibrations from the plant. The residents claimed the nuisances not only disrupted their daily lives but also raised serious concerns about reduction of the value of their properties.

Our team worked tirelessly to ensure each homeowner’s concerns were heard and addressed. We successfully negotiated settlements, the terms of which are confidential, that provided our clients with the compensation they deserved.

This achievement highlights our commitment to protecting the rights and well-being of the citizens of Georgia. We are proud to have supported our clients and achieved justice on their behalf.
