Congratulations to our very own Chris Jackson who last night was sworn in as Chief Municipal Court Judge of Rome by the Rome City Commission! Judge Jackson replaces outgoing Judge Bryan Johnson, who was recently elected to the Superior Court of Floyd County. This part-time position allows Chris to continue a full practice with MSP. Chris had this to say.

Being appointed by the City Commission to serve as Chief Judge is an honor and I look forward to continuing to build on the great work Judge Johnson has done for Rome.

Congratulations also to Judge John Scott Husser, pictured, who was also sworn in as assistant judge. Pictured left to right are Judge Husser, City Attorney Andy Davis, and Judge Jackson.

MSP attorney Linton Johnson was recently elected as Secretary of the Rome Bar Association for the 2020-2021 cycle. The Rome Bar meets regularly to address and discuss legal issues of local importance. This gives Members the chance to meet, know and work within the community of Rome lawyers and judges beyond the walls of the office. The Secretary usually goes on to serve as Vice President and then President, effectively making the position a three year commitment.

Firm Announcement: earlier this evening MSP senior partner Virginia Harman was unanmiously approved as county attorney by the Floyd County Commission, making her the first woman to be appointed to this prestigious position in Floyd County’s 187 year history. Widely regarded as a seasoned counselor and ferocious litigator, Virginia has time and again broken down barriers and shown herself deserving of this and her many other appointed positions. Virginia is also known to be a highly skilled communicator able to convey complex topics in understandable terms to her clients and juries alike. Virginia’s legal skills have proven effective over decades of achieving winning outcomes for her clients. This historical occasion marks another one of many glass ceilings Virginia has shattered over her illustrious career. Congratulations Virginia on this well-deserved achievement!

MSP is still hard at work advocating strongly for our clients. Rob Monroe recently settled a car accident case for over $90,000. Rob’s client was injured while driving when an approaching car’s trailer became detached and struck the client’s vehicle. Rob’s investigation revealed that the trailer was negligently maintained – it had bald tires and should not have been on the road. The client suffered a torn rotator cuff, but has now recovered and back at work.
